It has benefited from a steady influx of working-age people over the past 40 years, but now risks forfeiting that privilege. In 1985 the UK was the second oldest population in Europe. The UK is now the fourth youngesr country in Europe. Emmigration has made the difference. Without it the workforce would one quarter smaller.
